The exuberant Berlin-based drum ‘n bass producer Mathis Mootz (The Panacea), carries a dark past on his shoulders which determines his often radical choices in life. Rise and Shine is a short doc which digs through layers of self-identifications to bring us under the skin of Mootz’s somehow evil, eccentric and dual persona - set against the colourful but dark palette of Berlin. A trip back into childhood, to a peaceful small town, illustrates how past experiences often determine who we become.
